The Scottish Catholic Archives preserves, selects, and makes available the archives of the post-reformation Catholic Church in Scotland and abroad.
Collections held
Our holdings include parish registers and documentary records for the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh (1878-); the Diocese of Aberdeen (1878-); the Diocese of Argyll and the Isles (1878-); the Diocese of Dunkeld (1878-); the Diocese of Galloway (1878-); the Diocese of Motherwell (1947-); and the Diocese of Paisley. We hold the archive of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland and all its Agencies and Commissions. The Archives also cares for private records received by gift, purchase, loan or charge and superintendence, which relate to the Catholic Church in Scotland at home and abroad. These can include the records of individuals; families; estates; businesses; organisations; clubs and societies.
Access
Access to the archive is by appointment between the hours of 10am-1pm and 2pm-4.00pm Monday to Friday; at least one-week notice is required. The archive is closed for Public and religious holidays and over the Christmas and New Year period.
The Archive is part of the Network of Archives & Libraries of the Catholic Church and as material is catalogued it will be made available online through the Catholic Heritage website.
