The Archdiocesan Archives contain historical documents from around 1916 relating to the Archbishops and some parishes. For some parish records please see the information below relating to Record Office deposits.
The Archdiocesan Library is based on the private collections of Bishop Brown (1850 – 1880) and Bishop Hedley (1881 – 1915) of the Diocese of Newport and Menevia, together with those of Archbishop Bilsborrow, (1916 – 1920), Archbishop Mostyn (1921 – 1939) and Archbishop McGrath (1940 – 1961) of the Archdiocese of Cardiff. As well as theological and liturgical works, the collection includes texts on philosophy and history, biblical studies and religious biographies. A number of current and older journals form part of the collection. The Library catalogue is currently being revised and updated.
Archivist on site most Fridays, Please book in advance; casual visitors are not admitted. Letter of introduction and proof of identity are required.
At present, the Library is not open to the public but enquiries may be made to the Librarian by post or email. The Librarian is usually on site on Fridays.
